200 Homes Sit Empty At Little Mountain During Homelessness Crisis

NDP slams Campbell government for neglectful housing policy

VICTORIA – New Democrats demanded answers today from the Campbell government about the removal of more than 200 families from the Little Mountain Housing project.

"The families have been evicted, the homes are sitting empty, and this delayed redevelopment isn’t going to begin until 2011, if it starts at all.

Kwan, the MLA for Vancouver-Mt. Pleasant said the development is at least a year behind schedule, and there are serious questions about whether it will proceed at all, in light of the global economic crisis.

Vancouver-Kensington MLA David Chudnovsky said "the Campbell government refuses to take action on affordable housing, but it moved with breakneck speed to force families out from Little Mountain. These actions have compounded the homelessness crisis."
