ARMSTRONG – New Democrat agriculture critic Corky Evans heard from frustrated farmers this past weekend in Armstrong on the Campbell government's lack of commitment to farming.
“Despite the fact that B.C. ranks last in government funding for agriculture supports, and for investment in the business of farming, Armstrong farmers continue to fight, because they are passionate about the future of farming and its survival,” said Evans, the MLA for Nelson-Creston.

Evans brought agricultural initiative, Food For B.C., to Armstrong to hear from farmers about what they need to sustain and grow their livelihood.
“First and foremost Armstrong farmers are concerned about the Campbell government - imposed meat regulation and it’s impact on the North Okanagan area,” said Evans. “Farmers want their MLA to stand up for their livelihoods, yet so far Minister George Abbott has failed to take the issue seriously."
"Armstrong farmers want and deserve to be consulted on regulations that ultimately impact their businesses," said Evans.
Farmers further called for provincial investment in food education and environmental advocacy, an improved environmental farm plan and government support for permanent farmers markets, especially in urban areas.
“I am continually inspired by farmers and advocates who take time out of their busy lives to get involved in these important consultations,” said Evans.
Evans will continue Food For B.C. across the province over the coming months. Please visit www.foodforbc.ca for more information.
