Glacier-Howser Meeting In Nelson On Wednesday

NELSON—   New Democrat MLA Michelle Mungall is excited to be hosting a forum on the Glacier-Howser private power project on Wednesday.

“It’s exciting to see the energy that the people of this region are bringing to the issue of private power,” said Mungall. “I’m expecting a diverse crowd at the meeting.” Michelle MungallMichelle Mungall

Mungall said the Campbell government’s refusal to address the region’s overwhelming opposition to the project shows that they are completely out of touch with the issues that matter to British Columbians.

“If these projects were as beneficial as the Campbell government says they are they wouldn’t have to push them through without meaningful consultation and debate,” said Mungall.

“The fact that the B.C. Liberal government stripped communities of the right to say no to private power projects shows that Gordon Campbell knows that communities are not interested in trading a thriving tourism industry and pristine wilderness areas for private power profiteering.”

The meeting, which will feature Save Our Rivers spokesman Rafe Mair and the Western Canadian Wilderness Committee’s Joe Foy, will be held at the Prestige Inn at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 15.
