HST - The Issues

|

The HST is a broken B.C. Liberal promise
During the 2009 election campaign, the B.C. Liberals said in writing they would not bring in the HST. As soon as the election was over, they reversed course and announced plans to introduce the tax.

The HST will hit you in the pocketbook
The HST represents a $1.9 billion tax shift onto the backs of British Columbians. It will increase the cost of everything from that first cup of coffee in the morning, to haircuts, bicycles and even funerals. Big business will pay less, but working families will pay more.

The HST will hurt consumers and small business
The increase in sales tax will curb consumer spending and as a result some small businesses may not see the end of year. The restaurant industry alone expects to lose as many as 12,000 jobs, all because of the HST.
