It's time for answers in the mushroom farm accident, say New Democrats

VANCOUVER – New Democrat labour critic Raj Chouhan is calling for the facts to be examined at the Burnaby Coroner’s inquest into the deaths of three Langley mushroom farmers and serious injuries to two others in 2008.

At the Coroner’s inquest on Tuesday, Raj Chouhan, MLA for Burnaby Edmonds issued the following statement:

“Our hope is that the inquest into the accident will answer the many questions about how and what happened on the farm. We need to examine the facts behind this accident and seek answers as to why three men died and two were seriously injured.

“This is an accident that should not have happened and in this fact-finding inquest we need to learn how to prevent similar deaths and injuries from happening in the future.

“The thoughts and prayers of the New Democrat caucus are with the families of the deceased workers and the survivors of this terrible event. Our hope is to see new recommendations and safety regulations that will prevent these kinds of tragedies.”

Adrian Dix and the New Democrats are committed to the safety and well-being of workers and to ensuring their lives and health are not at risk in the workplace.
