Liberal mismanagement

From the HST deception,
to the B.C. Rail scandal coverups,
to the wasted resources on the failed BCeSiS program,
The Liberal government continues to mismanage
the issues that matter most to British Columbians.

The HST deception

The HST was a massive tax shift onto the backs of average families and small businesses.

For a decade, the Liberal Party has shifted the tax burden onto B.C. families. A return to the PST will be good for communities, good for families and good for small business. It will make life a little bit more affordable for working families.

It is time for the provincial government to move quickly to restore the PST- as it was on June 30, 2010, as it was on Election Day 2009.

It is time to get down to business and address the real challenges we face - the economy and jobs, affordability, growing inequality, health, education and the environment.

It has been more than two years of a Liberal government that has done nothing other than the HST. They have let us down. They have failed families.

The people of B.C. made a clear decision.

New Democrats will work tirelessly to hold the Liberals to account as they implement the results of this historic referendum.

The B.C. Rail Scandal

Christy Clark continues to refuse to support growing calls for a public inquiry into the B.C. Rail corruption scandal. British Columbians have every right to wonder why she doesn't want the public to get to the bottom of B.C. Rail.

In 2003, Christy Clark and the B.C. Liberals broke their promise to British Columbians, betrayed British Columbians in the north and the Cariboo, and sold off the publically-owned BC Rail.

But the sale was more than just another broken promise - it sparked the largest political scandal in B.C. history.

More than seven years after police conducted an unprecedented raid on the B.C. legislature, the B.C. Rail trial ended with surprise guilty pleas. The B.C. Liberal government has now admitted the guilty plea was contingent on a $6 million buy-out.

New Democrats are calling on Christy Clark to call an inquiry that looks into the $6 million taxpayer funded bail-out of the B.C. Liberal insiders convicted of corruption, so British Columbians can get the answers they deserve.

Education resources wasted on BCeSiS

Over the last few years, numerous school districts raised concerns about the fact that the BCeSiS student tracking software was expensive, difficult to use, and worked poorly, yet the Liberals ignored them, and wasted millions of dollars of education resources in the process.

New Democrats are calling on the Auditor General to investigate whether or not then Education Minister Christy Clark did due diligence before leaving taxpayers on the hook for this expensive computer program that will now need to be scrapped.

The B.C. Rail scandal

For over seven years, the B.C. Liberals have refused to answer questions relating to the sale of B.C. Rail. They have refused public calls for an independent public inquiry into the sale of the former crown corporation. Now, after spending $6 million of taxpayer dollars to secure guilty pleas from former political aides Dave Basi and Bob Virk in the B.C. Rail corruption trial, the office of the Attorney General refuses to answer questions surrounding this buy-out.

Many questions remain, including the reason as to why the B.C. Liberal government paid the legal fees for two guilty civil servants. The New Democrats have been pushing for answers. You can find a complete list of questions asked here.
