BACKGROUNDER - Waitlist Insurance Scheme in B.C.

B.C. Automobile Association (BCAA), in partnership with the insurance company Acure Health, has announced plans to introduce a private wait list insurance scheme.

This new private insurance scheme will offer people who can afford to pay for it the ability to jump the queue and receive expedited medical treatment at private clinics in B.C., and also in the United States, if the public wait list for treatment exceeds 45 days.

This kind of preferential access insurance scheme is illegal under the B.C. Medicare Protection Act and the Canada Health Act.

The B.C. Liberals are breaking their promise to seniors again. Gordon Campbell wants us believe that they’ve kept their promise to build 5,000 new long term care beds.  He’s not telling the truth.  The BCMA says Campbell has actually cut beds. Gordon Campbell keeps repeating his promise and breaks it every time.

Health minister must provide list of facilities where tainted meat used

VICTORIA – As the listeriosis outbreak continues it is imperative that the Campbell government take the lead on informing the public of all health care and seniors facilities that may have used any of the tainted meat products on the recall list, Opposition health critic Adrian Dix said today.
