B.C.'s New Democrats understand the need
to build a twenty-first century economy that respects
the environment. That's why we're offering a vision
for a sustainable B.C. that protects the environment,
builds communities and creates jobs.
Protecting our Children from Toxic Chemicals. The New Democrats have introduced legislation to ban the non-essential use of toxic pesticides on lawns and in the places where our children play. These chemicals expose our children to cancer-causing toxins, poison our waterways and pollute our environment. It's time to take them off the shelves.
Keeping our Coast Oil Free. In the face of threats to the Great Bear Rainforest, like the Enbridge tarsands pipeline, New Democrats are calling for a legislated ban on coastal oil drilling and crude oil supertanker traffic off our wild coast.
Meanwhile, the B.C. Liberals have refused to stand up against the Enbridge tarsands pipeline, and have lobbied the federal government to open up our coast to oil drilling.
Protecting Species at Risk. The New Democrats have introduced legislation to protect plants and animals threatened by extinction on two separate occasions. The legislation was rejected by the B.C. Liberal government both times, despite the fact that British Columbia is one of only two provinces in the country without stand alone species at risk legislation.
