Statement from B.C. New Democrat Leader Adrian Dix on Dave Barrett receiving the Order of B.C.

VANCOUVER – B.C. New Democrat leader Adrian Dix issued the following statement on Dave Barrett receiving the Order of B.C.:

“Dave Barrett’s years as Premier of B.C. were, without doubt, three of the most significant years in our history.

"His legacy, accomplished in such a short time, is without parallel: the Agricultural Land Reserve, ICBC, Pharmacare, student loans and income for seniors—to name just a few.

“Dave was B.C.’s Tommy Douglas – a pioneer and an inspiration for all who strive for a fairer, more just society.

“I was lucky enough to work with Dave in Ottawa when he was an MP. Dave Barrett was — and will always remain — a friend, a mentor and a hero to me.

“I also want to pay tribute to every other recipient, including Kim Campbell, all of whom served our province and communities with such distinction.”
