Statement from New Democrat Leader Adrian Dix on Remembrance Day

VANCOUVER  –  B.C. New Democrat leader Adrian Dix issued the following statement in commemoration of Remembrance Day:

"Today, British Columbians honour the courage and selflessness of our veterans and those Canadians who continue to serve in our armed forces and merchant marines.

"They have protected and preserved our most fundamental rights and most cherished values, forgoing their own safety, health, comfort and in many cases future. Over 100,000 Canadians from all ethnicities have given their lives in two world wars, the Korean War, on peacekeeping missions and in Afghanistan.

"When we gather today at community ceremonies and share moments of silence, we will renew our promise to never forget these sacrifices made on behalf of our province and nation.

"And part of how we remember and reciprocate must include ensuring veterans, armed service personnel, and  their families have ready access to the supports and services they need, from quality health care and education, fair pensions, and an accessible, fair legal system."

"As we wear poppies to show our gratitude today, we must commit ourselves that these Canadians will not be left struggling after dedicating themselves to our greater welfare."
