The B.C. Liberals' real record on jobs and families

Over the last decade, the B.C. Liberal government has made life tougher for many B.C. families. And they’ve left the most vulnerable behind.

Even though the B.C. Liberals have had a decade in government, they haven’t delivered. Their narrow agenda over the last ten years has made life increasingly tough for British Columbians. And many people, especially the poorest and most vulnerable in our communities, have simply been left behind.

B.C. has the shameful distinction of having had the highest child poverty rate in Canada for seven years in a row. Wages are stagnant, and we have the lowest minimum wage in the country.

B.C. families are looking for a government that shows leadership in addressing the challenges citizens are facing. Even while front line public services are being cut, the B.C. Liberals have been shifting more of the burden onto B.C. citizens. The HST shifts $1.9 billion in taxes onto consumers. MSP premiums have increased by 70 per cent since 2002, and will go up again next year.

It’s time for a change. New Democrats want to build a strong, vibrant and green economy that creates jobs and generates the wealth to provide a high standard of living and quality social programs for all British Columbians.
