Three Months and Still No Action on Mouldy Homes- Trevena

VICTORIA— Yesterday during question period North Island MLA Claire Trevena demanded answers from Gordon Campbell about what he has done to address the appalling housing conditions facing many of the people who live on the Tsulquate Reserve.

“It’s been three months and the Campbell government has done nothing,” said Trevena. “Clearly Gordon Campbell’s commitment to putting children first was just another empty promise.”

The Campbell government says helping families on the Tsulquate Reserve is a federal responsibility, despite having signed on to Jordan’s Principle, which says that the health and safety of kids needs to come before jurisdictional squabbling.

“The Campbell government has abandoned Jordan’s Principle,” said Trevena.  “Gordon Campbell is doing nothing but blaming the federal government while families and children are left to suffer the dire health and social consequences of living in crowded mouldy houses.”
